Position Overview: The SALT Manager will provide clients with tax consultation and guidance on state and local tax matters. This role will involve managing client relationships, handling tax controversies, and ensuring compliance with tax legislation. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of state and local tax laws and regulations and experience in tax planning and return preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tax consultation and advice to clients on state and local tax matters
- Assist clients with tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities
- Prepare and review state and local tax returns for individuals and businesses
- Manage tax controversies and represent clients in tax audits and appeals
- Stay up to date on changes in tax legislation and communicate any potential impacts to clients- Assist with apportionment calculations and state modifications for multi-state businesses
- Prepare ruling requests for clients seeking clarification on tax issues- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and serve as their trusted advisor
- Manage and train a team of tax professionals
- Continuously seek opportunities for professional development and stay current on state and local tax trends and strategies
- Collaborate with other departments and teams to provide comprehensive tax solutions to clients
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA or JD certification required
- 5+ years of experience in state and local tax, preferably in a public accounting firm
- Strong knowledge of state and local tax laws and regulations- Experience with tax planning, return preparation, and controversy management
- Excellent problem-solving and strategic thinking skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously
- Creative thinking and the ability to come up with innovative tax solutions for clients
- Commitment to continuing education and staying current on tax trends and strategies
